SEPA Direct Debit

If you have a Euro Currency Account with us you can make payments by Direct Debit through the SEPA Core Direct Debit Scheme. If you are a Corporate Opt-out customer you can also make payments through the SEPA Direct Debit Business to Business scheme.

The schemes operate in the Single European Payments Area (SEPA) and makes it easy for you to pay cross border regular expenses. When you sign up to pay a bill by Direct Debit, we will make arrangements for the payment to be made on the due date.

The most important differences between the SEPA Core Direct Debit Scheme and the SEPA Business to Business Direct Debit Scheme are:

  • The B2B Scheme is only available to Corporate Opt-out customers
  • In the B2B Scheme you are not entitled to obtain a refund of an authorised transaction
  • The B2B Scheme requires us to ensure that the collection is authorised by you by checking the collection against mandate information that you must supply us in advance of the payment request
  • The B2B Scheme offers a significantly shorter timeline for presenting direct debits and reduces the return period

What protection do I have?

Direct Debits originated outside of the UK are not protected by the Direct Debit Guarantee Scheme. Instead, they are subject to the SEPA Core Direct Debit Rulebook or SEPA Business to Business Direct Debit Rulebook.

Under the Core Scheme you have the right to advise us that you do not want payments to be taken from your account under the SEPA Core Direct Debit scheme. If you dispute a transaction you have the right to request an immediate refund within 8 weeks from the date your account was debited. If you have not authorised a payment you can request a refund up to 13 months after the date your account was debited.

Under the Business to Business Scheme you do not have any rights to request a refund from us. You do however have the right to ask us to make an enquiry concerning a payment made under the SEPA B2B Direct debit Rulebook.
