Protect your business against fraud

You should protect your PCs against online attacks. If your systems are not sufficiently protected, hackers could gain access to your PC and, when you log on to Business eBanking they could take over your online session. They could also send spam email in your name from your email account, use your PC as a cover from which to attack others, disrupt or destroy your daily work, obtain personal information about you and your business.

    General guidelines for using Business eBanking

  • Be responsible​. Ensure that no one but you has access to your User ID, password and eSafeID. We will never ask for your password or security code from your eSafe ID device under any circumstances. Please report any requests for this type of information to us on 02890 311377*.
  • Always use Business eBanking in a place you trust. Avoid using publicly available computers and open wi-fi networks.
  • Always access your Business eBanking by typing in the exact bank address in your browser(www.danskebank.co.uk) or from your own browser favourites. When you try to access Business eBanking the webpage address will change so that it starts with the letters - https:/. Don't use links from emails or another site - they could take you to a fake website that looks like ours. ​
  • Don’t follow links in emails or text messages that claim to be from Danske Bank, especially those expressing an urgent need for you to update your information, activate an account, or verify your identity by calling a phone number or submitting information on a website. Danske Bank will never send you an email containing a link to Business eBanking.


  • Be careful when you use a wireless network, be aware that others could tap into your computer. Remember to activate the encryption key before using the wireless network.
  • Look for the locked padlock or unbroken key symbol in the browser when using our website.
  • Always log off after you have completed your Business eBanking session and turn off your PC when not in use to avoid being connected to the internet for longer than necessary.
  • Immediately report unusual Business eBanking activity such as unexpected “closed for service” message, an unusually long time to log on, or payments created that you do not recognise.​

Security tips to protect your computer



 

Security Updates
Keep your systems updated. When you update your software, you close the security holes in software that hackers, malware and viruses find and exploit to access your PC. Update all your software – operating system, browser and all other programs – on a regular basis.

 

Antivirus
Make sure you install an antivirus program that scans for viruses in the files stored on your computer. Update the program regularly to ensure continual protection against new viruses. Set up your antivirus program to automatically check for viruses when you download files from the internet.

 

Firewall
Install a firewall to protect against hackers and keep it updated. A firewall is a software or hardware solution that checks incoming data from the Internet or a network, preventing hackers from accessing your PC.

 

Passwords
Keep your passwords secret. Never use names or birthdays as passwords. Instead, use a combination of letters, digits and signs. Never use the same password for different sites and remember to change it regularly.

 

Downloads
Download programs only from known and credible websites. Never open programs directly. Instead, save them on your hard drive and have your antivirus program check them before you open them. Never download or open any attachment which has been sent to you as an unsolicited email.

 

Social media
Many hackers are active on social media and chat sites. Show precaution when you open links, video clips, images and applications – even if they come from someone you know. All of these attachments may contain malware. Do not disclose personal information, as you cannot be sure who sees it.

 

Email
Email is one of the most common ways to spread computer viruses and other programs that may harm your systems. Be cautious about opening emails. If you do not know the sender or receive an unexpected email, you should consider deleting the email without opening it first. Be particularly cautious about opening emails with attached files, as well as emails with odd names or emails in another language.

Don't reply to, or use links within, emails asking for your personal password or User ID. Nobody needs to know them except you. Danske Bank will never request such information by email, phone, text message or post. Be wary of 'spam' emails and false warnings, for example false virus warnings. If you're suspicious about any emails you receive, do not open them but send them to phishing@danskebank.co.uk . We are grateful to all customers who forward us these emails.

Protect your mobile devices

The rapidly growing number of individuals using smartphones and tablets for mobile banking has created a new target for cybercriminals to exploit. You need to take mobile device security just as seriously as you do security for your computers and laptops.
Here are some tips on how to enhance your online security for mobile devices:

Use a password
Make sure that your mobile device is secured with a password. Also change the pre-set standard codes to prevent unauthorised use of your mobile device if you lose it.

Keep your mobile device updated
Update your mobile device regularly to close security holes. It is important to keep the software on your phone, tablet and apps up to date.

Install only apps you trust
Be aware that when you download and install applications for your mobile device, they may contain malware. Download only apps you trust from the reputable app markets, such as Google Play, App Store or Windows Market.

Download mobile security software for your smartphone.
The majority of anti-virus software vendors provide mobile security software.

Avoid keeping sensitive data on mobile devices.
Mobile Devices are much easier for a thief to steal than desktops, and even laptops. If your device is stolen, all of the information you have saved on that device is now in someone else’s hands. Pictures and personal emails may be okay to save on your device, but financial records, important passwords and sensitive email messages are not.

If you lose your smartphone or change your number
Remove the old number from your mobile banking profile.

 Fraud prevention measures that you can take within Business eBanking

  • Dual authorisation of payments – also referred to as two jointly authorisation, is a control mechanism designed to achieve a high level of security. With this control, payments need to be initiated by one user and approved by a second user before they take effect. That way you make it more difficult for the hackers to make payments in your name. ​​

  • Payment limits. Using the Administration module in Business eBanking, you can use payment limits as an additional security measure to control payments executed through Business eBanking. You can create a payment limit on an account and/or on an individual user depending on your requirements. 

  • Locked creditor listing . Using the Administration module in Business eBanking, you can restrict User access so that payments can only be made to a regular list of creditors, avoiding payments being transferred to an unknown creditor.
