Danske 3D Secure

Danske 3D Secure is provided by Danske Bank in association with Verified by Visa™, MasterCard Secure Code™ and MasterCard Identity Check™ to offer additional security when shopping online at participating merchants.

3D Secure adds an additional layer of security when shopping online at participating retailers through the requirement to enter a unique one-time passcode before purchases are transacted. With maximum security and minimal fuss, 3D Secure is convenient and free!

How does it work?

To enhance your online security and protect your online shopping transactions, Danske will provide a two factor authentication level of security (The two factors being the unique one-time passcode and delivery to your mobile phone).

We will automatically enrol all your debit and credit cards for 3D Secure and you will be required to enter a numeric, 6 digit one-time passcode, which will be sent to your mobile phone device, to complete your online purchases securely. You will be required to enter a one-time passcode every time you make a payment using your debit or credit card when shopping online at participating 3D Secure merchants.

What do I need to do?

You will need to register your mobile phone number with us otherwise we will not be able to send you the one-time passcode. Refer to FAQs below on how to do this. If you do not have a mobile device, or if you do not register your mobile phone number with us, then you will not be able to use your debit or credit card to shop online with participating merchants.

FAQs

How does it work?

When you make an online transaction at a participating 3D Secure merchant the Verified by Visa™, MasterCard Secure Code™ or MasterCard Identity Check™ logo will appear if additional authentication is required. The last four digits of you registered mobile phone will be displayed on screen along with the details of your purchase.

Do I need my mobile phone to use 3D Secure?

Yes - You will need to register your mobile phone number with us otherwise we will not be able to send you the one-time passcode. You will be required to enter this every time you make a payment using your debit or credit card when shopping online at participating 3D Secure merchants. You will no longer be required to provide your current 3D Secure password.

What if I do not have a mobile phone?

We are making this change in connection with VISA and MasterCard as part of our ongoing commitment to card fraud prevention. An unfortunate consequence of this is that customers who do not have a mobile device will, from 3 July 2017, no longer be able to use their Danske Bank debit or credit card to shop online with participating 3D secure merchants.

Can I opt out of 3D Secure?

No, all of our cards will be automatically registered for our 3D Secure Service. To make a purchase at a participating merchant you will be required to enter a one-time passcode.

What is a one-time passcode?

A ‘one-time passcode’ is an automatically generated six digit numeric passcode which will be sent to your mobile phone device by SMS Text. It is valid for only one transaction and provides a greater level of security for your online transaction.

How long do I have to use the one-time passcode?

The one-time passcode can only be used for one transaction & will remain valid for four minutes from the time you make your purchase on the merchant site.

What if my one-time passcode does not arrive within the four minutes?

You can click ‘Send Again’ on screen to generate a new one-time passcode.

What should I do if I do not receive a one-time passcode?
  • If you have not received a one-time passcode first check the last four digits shown on screen are correct.
  • If the number is correct then you may have opted out, intentionally or unintentionally, to receive certain text messages from your network provider.
  • You can ‘Opt In’ again, by texting OPT IN to 60999 (standard rate text for your network provider applies).
  • Please note that the amount of time taken by your network provider to opt you back in may result in your transaction being timed out and you may be returned to the merchant site.
  • If you still do not receive a verification code, then contact us for more help.
