Here is some useful advice about downloading and installing programs from the Internet
- Download only from sites you trust – never from untrustworthy sites or sites you don’t know.
- Do not open files directly from a website. Always save the file on your hard disk and check for viruses manually if your antivirus program is not configured to check automatically
- When you have saved the file, check that the file name hasn’t changed and that the file didn’t become a program, unless you have downloaded, for example, an installation program. Files ending with .exe, .bat, .cpm, .vbs or .pif are program files.
- Now you can open the file, but avoid double clicks. Instead, open the file using the program in which the file appears to have been created. For example, to open a Word document, start Microsoft Word and open the document using that program.
